Current Projects

Patients as Co-Authors of Their Hepatitis Prevention Plan

CHEC, in partnership with the Migrant Clinicians Network (MCN) has been awarded a five year grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The goal of the grant, called Hep Talk, is productive communication about risk and prevention of Hepatitis A, B, and C, between primary care providers and patients who migrate for purposes of work, or family unification,. Read the full press release.

CHEC is providing project coordination, conducting the evaluation and implementing the customized clinician training for this project. The clinician education is based on a model developed by Ron Epstein, M.D. for training physicians in HIV communication skills. We are pleased to have Kath Anderson on the HepTalk team. Kath worked with Dr. Epstein on the earlier research. For an article about this work see: www.annals.org/cgi/content/abstract/128/6/435

CHEC has partnered with MCN for many years now. MCN is a professional organization for clinicians who work with migrant farmworkers and the mobile poor in migrant and community health centers and local health departments throughout the United States. Please visit their website for more about this project and their work: www.migrantclinician.org.

Integration of HIV Prevention in Family Planning Services

With funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention the Center for Health Training (CHT) has developed a unique comprehensive training program to improve the intergration of HIV education, prevention and testing services in family planning clinics. Key to the project is the development of Learning Groups which involve staff from every level of the organizations and a focus on client-centered care.

CHEC is conducting the evaluation of this project utilizing, in part, instruments and strategies developed in conjunction with CHT for an HIV training needs assessment of DHHS Region VI Title X-funded clinics.
