Who we are, our philosophy, who we've worked with in the past.

The CHEC Team

CHEC is a partnership between Carmen Retzlaff, Claire Loe and Kathryn Anderson. Many of the projects we work on are multidisciplinary and require the addition of other professionals to our team.

Partners

Carmen Retzlaff, MPH, CHES received a Masters of Public Health (MPH) from the University of North Carolina (UNC). She has experience in manuscript development and editing, curriculum development, evaluation, program planning and coordination, grant writing, teaching, focus group research, needs assessment and community diagnosis. She has written and edited publications on a variety of health-related topics including for the International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care. See some of her writing here. Carmen also has taught health education at Texas State University in San Marcos.

Claire Loe, MPH also received her MPH from UNC. Her work includes evaluation, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, instrument development, needs assessment, strategic planning, program planning, lay health worker training, materials development, and community self-assessment. She has worked with diverse populations and speaks English and Spanish. Claire also works as an Program and Evaluation Specialist for The Center for Health Training. And is the webmaster for this website. She is currently a MS student at the University of Texas Health Science Center School of Health Information Systems.

Kathryn Anderson, MA  (Syracuse University) is a writer with years of experience as a teacher of writing, primarily with adults, in a broad range of venues: as an interpretive park ranger for the National Park Service, standard college composition courses, ESL classes, and courses for k-12 classroom teachers. Recently, she participated in research projects with Drs. Ronald Epstein and Cleveland Shields about physician HIV communication with patients, and spouse/ caregiver depression, respectively, both at the University of Rochester, NY.

Current Associates

Suzanne Hershey, MA with CommunitySync helps government, nonprofit, educational and civic organizations strengthen their organizations, collaborations, and communities. Their services include strategic partnership development, facilitation and planning, project management, research and writing, grant development, and related services.

Sandra Chada is an English to Spanish translator and interpreter and president of the Association of International Translators. She has worked for many years in the the field of translation and has extensive experience in medical translation and interpretation. She provides English to Spanish translation services for Health Letter products.

Hardy Loe, Jr., MD, MPH recently retired from thirty years with the University of Texas School of Public Health in Houston where he worked as an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Community Health. He has launched Hardy Loe Associates to offer consulting services to the public health community. He is widely recognized as an expert in public health planning and community health determinants.
